PIPE SHOW 2024 Industry News: Press Brake Training is Very Important (3)

PIPE SHOW 2024 understands that in pipe production, from the perspective of a metal manufacturing company, training novice operators to use press brakes can lead to a wrong decision that might cause damage to the machine, resulting in costly repairs.

Blount states that he has seen many operators who are not proficient with tool usage, for instance, operators responsible for 90-degree bends placing unsuitable tools in the brake, which could lead to die breakage or even worse scenarios.

Blount says, “The use of tools today is more complex and more expensive than ever, and the cost to replace a tool is less than the cost of a press brake. Once there is a crack in the machine, it leads to irreparable damage to the press brake.”

Of course, this is the worst-case scenario. However, even minor damage to the brake caused by inexperienced operators can be troublesome.

Blount has seen a new operator forcefully placing the blank on the machine, risking broken fingers, whereas the machine has a fixator to secure the material, eliminating the need for manual securing.

PIPE SHOW 2024 believes that basic training is extremely important for inexperienced operators. During the training, it’s essential to educate them about the machine and let them know that the brake is one of the main causes of injuries in the manufacturing process and that operators must remain highly focused at all times.

Blount believes that some people who do not care about the details may inadvertently damage the machine and injure themselves. Such individuals are not suited to be pipe operators.

In actual production, while manufacturers often want machines to produce as quickly as possible, from the employee's perspective, a slower process that assures attention to detail generally results in a lower rate of defects.
